FM Logistic Lovosice first to use AutoStore within entire holding

Lovosice FM Logistic implemented the AutoStore robotic system in the previous year and thus became the first branch in its global concern to use this modern innovation.

In the future, the prototype in Lovosice is also expected to help other sister plants in its expansion. Above all, this significant step towards automation should increase the quality of the services provided and guarantee the company’s competitiveness in the dynamic logistics environment.

The introduction of the first AutoStore in the entire FM Logistic Group on the Lovosice platform promises to improve efficiency and accuracy, as well as increase speed in storage and order picking. This investment will not only make the service more attractive to customers, but will also strengthen the position of this branch in the dynamic logistics environment. A major change has primarily been made to the storage and picking of goods, which was originally located on a mezzanine structure, but which was limited in size and inadequate for the growing traffic. By switching to an automated storage solution, it was possible to increase the space and efficiency of the warehouse.

We are very proud that AutoStore is here in Lovosice. We believe that the experience with this innovative technology will be an example for other FM Logistic branches, not only in the Czech Republic but also worldwide,” says Tadeáš Kos, FM Logistic’s Operations Director for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The installation of the AutoStore system in Lovosice took place from 20 March 2023 to 1 May 2023. During this time, the floor was prepared by levelling to ensure perfect levelness. After the installation was completed, a four-month mechanical testing period followed and system functions. During this time, all functions were thoroughly tested and the system was filled with goods. Sharp operation commenced on November 27, 2023, at which time all functions were fully verified and the system could be fully utilized.

A key operation was moving the entire mezzanine to AutoStore, which involved remeasuring and photographing thousands of items using Cubiscan equipment. Cubiscan is a 3D scanner that allowed all items to be measured to millimetres and grams. This ensured 100% accuracy of the master data of all items while also obtaining photos of the products, which were further used in the AutoStore user interface. This process took 12 weeks and involved moving to tens of thousands of new locations. With excellent coordination and communication between departments, the transition was smooth and with minimal disruption to normal operations.

Currently, the AutoStore is connected to a new conveyor circuit containing other new technologies, such as automated Box Erectors and Box Closers, which will help speed up the process and pick orders.

The introduction of the fastest fulfilment system per square metre has meant that FM Logistic’s employees have seen their work processes become significantly easier and faster. Employees received thorough training on the new technology, which was met with a very positive response due to the easy to understand user interface. In addition, the switch to AutoStore improves working conditions and reduces the physical strain on employees.

AutoStore is a flexible and modular robotic system that uses pre-programmed robots that move autonomously along the structure’s rails. A control center ensures their perfect cooperation and coordination with the trays by scheduling all tasks. The system easily adapts to any warehouse dimension and can efficiently store large quantities of small parts thanks to vertical storage. In this way, it not only saves space, but also time and costs.
