FM Logistic strengthens its commitment tosustainable transport through multimodalsolutions

Transportation accounts for 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions in 2019.

On March 4, 2025

Transportation accounts for 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions in 2019. In this context, FM Logistic is betting on multimodal to accelerate the transition to a sustainable supply chain. By combining rail and road, the company offers its partners concrete solutions to reduce their carbon footprint, particularly in their Scope 3. From the rail-road axis linking the south of France to Paris to the upcoming multimodal corridors in Poland, Spain and Romania, the Group is continuing its commitments to combine economic performance and environmental transition.

In a context where optimizing logistics flows and reducing the carbon footprint are strategic priorities, FM Logistic is deploying an innovative multimodal solution. Since September 2024,
on the rail-road axis linking the south of France to Paris, containers are first transported by truck from one of the FM Logistic warehouses to the Valenton (Val-de-Marne) or Avignon (Vaucluse) station. They then continue their journey by train to their arrival station, before hitting the road again to be delivered to distributor customers, with an alternative fuel, OLEO 100.

Since September 2024, we have been accelerating our development by strengthening our capacities thanks to an integrated solution, managed end-to-end by FM Logistic, with our own means, such as FM containers, on the North/South-East axis which not only reduces CO₂ emissions by 70 to 80% on a door-to-door journey, but also guarantees greater operational reliability and robustness of our transport plans. – Sylvain Philippe, European Multimodal Development Manager at FM Logistic

This new corridor now allows, on this axis specifically, to divide CO₂ emissions by 6 compared to exclusively road transport. Through this approach, the Group is reconnecting with its railway heritage and marking a significant new step which should soon be duplicated in other European countries.

Multimodal is not only a response to ecological issues; it also reinvents the practices and logistics models of tomorrow. It helps relieve congestion on the roads, alleviate the shortage
of drivers and reduce risks related to road safety. By offering a reliable alternative to road transport, multimodal also allows companies to better manage fluctuations in demand and
reduce transport costs, while respecting increasingly strict environmental standards.

FM Logistic has invested in multimodal since the 1990s, choosing, where possible, to connect its European warehouses to national transport networks. Today, the Group reaffirms its commitment to a more sustainable and omnichannel supply chain, and is determinedly continuing to implement its “Powering 2030” sustainable development strategy. This roadmap is based on three pillars: reducing the carbon footprint, developing more sustainable and inclusive logistics, and supporting its customers towards responsible solutions, with the objective of reducing its CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030.
